All management and employees are trained and educated so that they are acutely aware of the importance and need to protect personal information. This ensures that personal information is handled appropriately in our day-to-day operation. For details, please refer to the section on "Personal Information Protection Policy" in the Nippon Kayaku website.
MSDS
A Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) provides information
necessary for the customers' safe handling of chemical substances and is a legal requirement by laws such as: the Pollutant Release and Transfer Register (PRTS) Law and the Industrial Safety and Health Law of Japan. Our firm uses a database to manage our MSDS and the history of distributing its information to ensure that the latest information is made available at all times. Also, we are working on making our MSDS as accurate as possible by managing information on chemical substance safety on a database and by moving to GHS based information disclosure.
- *1MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet): The MSDS is a document issued by the supplier of a chemical substance to the user to ensure its safe handling. It includes detailed information on hazards, safety measures, and emergency countermeasures.
- *2GHS (Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals): The danger and hazardousness of chemical substances are classified according to a certain standard and labeled in an easily understandable way. Product labels and MSDS follow these rules to prevent accidents and to protect human health and the environment.
Ensuring the safety of our drugs and medical
equipment
Notable among the safety related activities we performed in relation to our pharmaceutical and medical products over the past year, our prostate cancer and breast cancer treatment drugs both went through reexamination and were confirmed to be unchanged in effectiveness or safety since their initial approval. Further, based on side-effects and other information we collected through our safety management activities, we issue supplemental documentation with cautionary notices (9 notices on 7 items) to the medical community regarding certain drugs or medical equipment that we sell, thereby making efforts to reduce risk to the patients.
- *3Reexamination: When a new drug with different active ingredients, effect/efficacy, or dosage/administration relative to conventional drugs is approved, its performance in actual use is monitored over a predetermined number of years and is reexamined to verify its effectiveness and safety.
Cancer specialized MRs providing drug information
When dealing with anticancer drugs, it is imperative to provide highly reliable information to medical facilities. We have over 400 Medical Representatives (MR) in our organization, and approximately 100 of them are cancer specialists. By attending various training programs, our cancer specialized MRs acquire a broad knowledge of latest cancer treatment methods and recent developments including information about medical communities.
Pharmaceuticals information
Medical Information Service Center
Our Medical Information Service Center receives approximately 20,000 inquiries each year from our customers regarding the 78 (as of September 2009) different ethical drugs and medical equipment that we offer.
We provide the most appropriate piece of pharmaceutical information for each inquiry to ensure that our drug becomes the "best product" for each customer. Each received call is answered carefully and courteously by our staff to make this goal a reality. Also, any suggestions or requests received from customers are reported and proposed to the relevant departments.
