Functional Chemicals Business

Supporting Eco-Friendly Manufacturing

Semiconductors

Heat Radiating Adhesive Sheet - high thermo resistant curable resin with high thermo conductivity

The Functional Chemicals Group contributes to the environment through its development of eco-friendly products and practices. The manufacturing of semi-conductors that avoid the use of environmentally harmful materials such as lead and halogen compounds requires the use of encapsulation resin from the environment-responsive epoxy resin NC-3000 series. Besides its application as a semi-conductor encapsulation, the use and quality of NC-3000 in printed circuit boards and composites is also widely recognized. It also serves as the de facto standard of high end products on the market today.

In addition, by harnessing our core epoxy resin manufacturing technologies, we have developed a transparent encapsulation resin for light-emitting diodes (LED), which have become a popular eco-friendly light source. By meeting the marketユs requirement for transparency and durability, our product has supported the further penetration of LED.

As electronic devises become more sophisticated and compact, an effective heatsink that allows heat to dissipate efficiently from highly condensed semi-conductors has become invaluable. Using the polymer technology we have refined to date, we developed a high thermo resistant heat dissipating resin (refer to the column below). Going forward, we aim to continue developing new cutting edge eco-friendly and energy efficient products.

In addition, we are also enhancing our efforts (green procurement) to prevent the use and distribution of chemical substances in products that are potentially harmful to our health and environment by requesting and managing information on the source of raw materials from suppliers and providing this information to our customers.

Pharmaceuticals Business

Broadening our presence in the field of intravascular and cancer treatments

Polymeric micelle anti-cancer drug

Nippon Kayaku specializes in cancer and its related fields, and makes positive contributions to medicine by utilizing its longstanding expertise in development, manufacturing and the provision of information.

Currently, we are actively engaged in the development of polymeric micelle anti-cancer drugs that utilize a drug delivery system formed by fusing together polymer technologies from the functional materials sector and the latest medical technologies.

In addition, we have designated interventional radiology (IVR) as a new focus area. In aiming to promote the further widespread use of our existing proprietary products such as IA-call, and to promptly launch sales of embolizing agents, we have established the IVR Business Section whose goal is to contribute to the niche market of IVR.

Safety Systems Business

Contributing to the safety of China's growing automobile market

13 million automobiles were produced in China in 2009. By 2015 production is expected to surpass 20 million units. In line with this growth in automobile production, Nippon Kayaku foresees a rapidly growing need for automotive safety parts in the country.

Kayaku Safety Systems(Huzhou)Co.,Ltd. (KSH), located approximately 200km to the west of Shanghai, was established in August 2006 with the mission to supply customers throughout mainland China with automotive safety parts. In October 2009, the company launched shipments of inflators and micro gas generators (MGG).

To ensure stable production and quality improvements, KSH employees are dispatched as trainees to the Nippon Kayaku Himeji Plant to acquire broader knowledge in manufacturing best practices. In June 2010, KSH acquired ISO9001 certification.

KSH is committed to safeguarding lives in China where traffic collisions are rapidly growing in number and severity.

Agrochemicals Business

Expanding the variation of agrochemicals

Spider mites and aphids are pests that cause serious damage to various vegetable plants and fruit trees

Continuing the development of agrochemicals is essential to stable food supplies

As one aspect of our development activities, our division is currently moving forward with the development of a spiracle-blocking insecticide. Because it acts differently than conventional agrochemicals, a spiracle-blocking insecticide can also be used against insect pests that have developed a resistance to chemical pesticides. In addition, as there are few restrictions on its use, from when to how much, a spiracleblocking insecticides are compatible with integrated pest management (IPM) programs.

As the issue of chemical-resistant insects is growing more serious today, we are committed to safeguarding food production through the development of an easier-to-use spiracle-blocking insecticide. In addition, we will continue to move forward with the development of agrochemicals that can address various different situations and requirements.
